Workbrain Unveils Real-Time Self-Scheduling for Healthcare

Workforce management innovator enables healthcare organizations to improve patient care while decreasing costs
Workbrain Corporation (TSX: WB) today announced the addition of the Real-Time Self-Scheduling module to its industry leading suite of workforce management solutions for healthcare. The unveiling of this new module marks a major milestone to drive improvements in the quality of patient care and safety through the adoption of workforce management solutions. The new application, to be made available with the release of Workbrain 5 later this year, will be showcased at this week’s ASHHRA Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Improving patient care while decreasing costs is a priority for all healthcare organizations today. Successfully meeting employee staffing challenges, such as unscheduled absenteeism and attracting and retaining skilled resources, can dramatically improve an organization’s ability to deliver quality care. Workbrain’s new Web-based, Real-Time Self-Scheduling module provides healthcare organizations with the tools they need to address these challenges and to better align their workforce with changing business demands. The new module streamlines the workforce scheduling process by allowing employees to schedule themselves for different types and lengths of shifts from any Web-accessible location. This results in less administration for supervisors and increased employee satisfaction. In addition, the Real-Time Self-Scheduling module enforces schedule compliance with department policies and labor laws to ensure that both patient and employee needs are met.

“This new Real-Time Self-Scheduling module reaffirms Workbrain’s dedication to the healthcare industry and ongoing commitment to product innovation,” said Mark Fowlie, Workbrain’s Senior Vice President, Products and Marketing. “Workbrain has worked with healthcare industry experts to develop an unparalleled, rules-based self-scheduling tool that helps to ensure patient coverage is met while simultaneously providing a high level of employee satisfaction.”

Industry research has demonstrated the connection between schedule ownership and employee retention. According to a survey conducted by Circadian Technologies Inc., work schedules developed through employee-driven processes (vs. management mandated) lead to lower levels of absenteeism and turnover. The study also indicated that fatigue is lower in facilities where employees choose their own schedule – only 6.5% of managers in these facilities reported severe fatigue problems, compared to 13% of managers who developed schedules for their staffs.
